WHY A
WORKSHOP?
It’s been also noted in our communication strategy that news
about the traffic accidents have been taking a significant
room in the printed and electronic media. However the news
provides information on the tragic consequences of the
accident, where the factors causing the accidents are either
not even referred or touched very briefly. Given the
influence of media in generating public opinion, it is clear
that, this approach does not serve the solution of the road
safety problem. In order to improve this situation, media
representatives should be provided a training on how to
provide the news on accidents to inform the community on the
road safety measures to be taken. In this training awareness
of the media representatives should be raised on the
critical role they should adopt in disseminating information
to change public behaviour to prevent road accidents. The
participants of the workshop should also be provided with
resources of information on the traffic accidents.
OBJECTIVE
To increase participatory contribution of media in providing
information to community on the measures to be taken to
ensure road safety; to help in developing news focused on
generating a positive change of behaviour for road safety
and to improve the communication channels between the media
representatives and the stakeholders.
METHODOLOGY
The workshop will be organised in a participative style. The
participants from both stakeholders and the media
representatives will be encouraged to share their
expectations from each other to enhance mutual understanding
and communication.
Attention of the media representatives will be drawn to the
studies being implemented to ensure road safety. The
materials developed under the campaign component of the
project will be shared with the participants as a resource
of information to be disseminated to the community. The
brochures, training programmes and posters are tools for the
media to provide positive messages to the community to
induce change. So, the workshop will provide us an
environment to share the campaign materials directly with
media, besides other information that the stakeholders would
like to share with the media representatives. In the way the
participant media representatives will receive information
on the relevant EU projects on infrastructure, inspection
and other road safety related topics.
